The hammer works really well
Compromised bushcraft tools

The signal is specifically targeted at those who venture into the wilderness and fancy themselves as a bit of a Ray Mears. With 19 tools including, for the first time on a Leatherman a ferro rod, knife sharpener and emergency whistle all in a 212g package could the Signal have everything you need for your next bushcraft adventure?

The 420HC stainless Steel blade can be opened one handed without the inconvenience of opening the body of the tool. It's razor sharp out of the box but if we're benchmarking against bushcraft tools the blade is a little on the small side. The saw opens in the same way as the knife blade and is sharp enough to chop through the odd sapling for making a cooking tripod or temporary shelter. We love the addition of the hammer to the Signal, it's got quite a weighty feel to it and is perfect for banging in stubborn tent pegs.

The usual array of screwdriver bits, awl, can opener and bottle opener complete the inner section of the body but what's really of interest are the little extras that adorn the outside of the tool.

Unfortunately, these are a little compromised. The ferro rod is on the short side, the knife sharpener isn't the best and the whistle doesn't blow loud enough to be effective. All in all, they aren't really replacements for dedicated versions if you're going full Bear Grylls but for light camping trips they work ok.

The wilderness tools fall short of the mark but that aside the Signal is still as capable and well-built as any other Leatherman so is worth a look at £125.
