The Skeletool is a stripped-down, lightweight multi-tool from Leatherman, with modern, minimalist looks hiding a well-thought-out, if limited, selection of useful tools. Although specifically aimed at snowboarders, this tool is equally at home on a camping trip. The fact that you can see the bare bones of the knife’s insides through the weight saving holes cut into the metal exterior enhances this machined, fit-for-purpose look.

The main event inside the Skeletool is its razor sharp 6.2cm 420HC stainless steel blade which locks firmly into place when open – a function which certainly gives you piece of mind when you’re putting the knife under cutting pressure!

Apart from the blade the Skeletool also comes equipped with pliers, wire cutters, a bit driver, as well as a karabiner for attaching the knife to things – or visa versa. This last item also doubles as a bottle opener. It terms of functions, the Skeletool is very minimalistic when compared to other Leatherman models, but as a result it’s also a lot lighter at only 142g.

On the outside you get a handy removable pocket clip which lets you wear the Skeletool attached to a pocket or belt loop without the use of a sheath.

We used the Skeletool on a skiing and snowboarding trip in Chamonix and found it handy to have out on the slopes for adjusting bindings and general tweaking of gear. We’ve also taken it on a camping trip where it certainly came in handy. So, although the Skeletool has the basics you might want in a multi-tool, it would be advisable to go for a more comprehensive model such as the Juice CS4 if you’re looking for a one tool to do it all.
