A small capacity daypack with big pack features the Ortovox Traverse 20 is a quality pack designed for shorter, less gear-intensive day trip adventures.

The Traverse 20 comes in one size so it's worth trying one on for fit before committing to buying but the fit was good for our 6ft 2" tester.

The well-placed padding on the back of the Traverse creates an air channel with a decent amount of airflow through it to help with cooling and the mesh finish of the padding further aids sweat management.

The comfortable hip belt straps aren't adjustable but have a good level of padding and ventilation, and the integrated pocket is big enough to swallow a GPS unit or phone for easy access.

The sternum strap has an emergency whistle built in and is made from an elasticated material, which means you can cinch it up tight without worrying too much about restricting your breathing.

The load transfers well to the hip belt even though there's no frame to speak of and the bag feels well balanced and comfortable when loaded up.

The Traverse 20 features side compression straps top and bottom, the little strip of Velcro on them to stop the excess flapping about is a clever touch.

As a nod to Ortovox's ski background the Traverse 20 features a ski fix system as well as a helmet net. Unusually for a small pack a rain cover is also included.

There is a decent range of pockets including a big stretch front pocket and elasticated side pockets, as well as an attachment point for hiking poles.

Overall, the Traverse 20 is a comfortable, versatile little pack that combines quality construction with well thought out features, and at £80 it represents a good value buy.
