Alf Alderson reviews the Thule Perspektiv messenger bag - superbly designed and great to use whether you're a 'messenger' or not.

Very functional, user-friendly design, great looks
Nothing really other than maybe using a zip fastening rather than Velcro for the lid. Quite pricey mind.

The Thule Perspektiv is one of the best designed messenger bags we’ve used – it looks great, it’s lightweight and it will easily hold a laptop in a well-padded sleeve along with a DSLR camera and up to two lenses plus all your other bits and pieces.

A removable pod system provides a modular option for carrying essentials or to store your equipment elsewhere for safe keeping, and the airport security friendly laptop compartment fits up to a 15” MacBook Pro.

We especially liked the removable pod concept since it allows you to use the bag for different activities, from commuting to photography.

Being of Scandinavian origin the design is, of course clean, minimal and functional. There are fewer seams which mean less points of entry for water and other contaminants, and critical seams are welded and taped.

In addition to the camera and laptop compartments there’s a good-sized compartment for ‘general’ stuff such as books, and two mesh pockets for smaller items such as mobile phone or spare memory cards and batteries.

You can access your stuff on the go via a waterproof zip built into the lid; the lid itself is secured with Velcro fastenings and buckles, and the shoulder strap and hip straps are easily adjustable for different situations such as cycling or commuting on foot.

All in all probably one of the best messenger bags out there.
