The workstand which doubles as in-box bike holder is genius
Mind-bogglingly big and a bit heavy

It's clear from its name that the Transition bike box is aimed at globe-trotting triathletes, whose races of three sports involve two transitions as the racers switch between swimming, cycling and running.

Triathletes are known for their high-end, aerodynamic time trial bikes, often made of impact-shy carbon fibre. Which is where the Transition comes in, with its ABS constructed hard-shell and huge dimensions.

This box is easily big enough for a gate-sized road bike for a six-foot-plus rider - even if the bike has an integrated seatpost which can't be removed. Over-sized 29'er mountain bikes will fit too, with plenty of room for voluminous tyres in the two supplied wheel bags, which slot down either side of your frame.

The real star of this box is the internal Click-Rail, which doubles as a base to fix your bike to the bottom of the box, and - when removed from the box and set up with the three removable alloy tripod legs - as a workstand for assembling and tweaking your bike at your destination.

The whole top half of the box lifts off for easy access, and is locked in place with pair of buckles at one end, further protected by a Velcro strap.

On one bottom corner there is a pair of smart wheels for easily wheeling the box around, and a lifting strap on the other end. One small criticism is that this strap could be a little looser and more padded for extra towing comfort.

With airlines often tricky with their baggage size and weight limits you should know that the Transition is 137cm long, by 94cm high, by 39cm wide. Internal height is 90cm. Empty weight is an already fairly hefty 17.6kg.

In summary: a strong, massive bike transport solution with an ingenious built-in workstand that will be the envy of your travel companions.
