The Aqua Back pannier from Vaude is a waterproof roll-top closure 48l pannier bag made from 100 per cent Polyester with 1000 D Thermoplastic Polyurethane coating.

This is a premium priced bag so, as you would expect the mounting points have plenty of adjustment and are quick and easy to use. A flick of the click dials releases the top clip mounting points allowing you to slide them around to get the perfect fit for your bike. A range of inserts are included for different rack tube diameters to ensure a nice snug fit.

The top mounting points clip open and closed using the pull handle, which can be fiddly until you get used to the short, sharp pull it needs to release.

Towards the bottom of the back panel sits a stabilising arm which is mounted on an oval shaped rail, again, allowing you to easily and quickly dial in the perfect fit for your rack.

There are some handy mesh pockets inside for separating out smaller items that might need quick access and the main compartment swallows up a good amount of gear, if you need additional storage space the Aqua Back Plus comes equipped with an extra outside pocket.

The lock loop is a nice touch that could deter opportunist thieves and the roll top closure allows you to compress the bag down depending on how full it is. The removeable shoulder strap makes carrying off the bike easy and reasonably comfortable and all the clips and straps that hold everything together are robust and have so far been reliable.

The Aqua Back is, of course, totally waterproof, we find the roll-top closure on this and competitors panniers a tad fiddly especially when bursting at the seams with gear but a good amount of man-handling usually gets the job done.

Overall a solid choice for cycle touring although the price point might deter those looking for a bargain.
