You’re probably thinking £21.99 is rather a lot to pay for a pair of socks, but this offering from US manufacturer Darn Tough is just that – darn tough. So much so that they come with an unconditional lifetime guarantee.

They’re also remarkably soft and comfy too. All this is due to the use of 100 per cent fine gauge Merino wool in the construction, along with 1441 stitches per square inch, which gives a very dense and resilient cushioning.

They’re also designed not to slip or bunch or produce hot spots or blisters (and remember you’ve got the guarantee if they do) and, of course, being Merino you get all the benefits of natural temperature regulation and wicking.

In use the socks are indeed both superbly comfortable as well as offering great cushioning, and the knee length fit provides additional warmth in cold conditions making them especially good for British winters.
