The Alzir was one of the heavier and bulkier jackets we tested and is more likely to appeal if you’re looking for a well-made waterproof for recreational year-round use rather than a specialist summer lightweight.

The extra weight is due to the fact that it has a net/taffeta lining and the waterproof/breathable Storm System fabric is quite burly, being ‘designed to keep you dry and warm during all weather conditions’ according to the Swedish manufacturer. All the seams are also taped, incidentally.

The well-designed hood is fully adjustable and detachable, and below it sits a nice microfleece chin guard; you get two zipped hand pockets, a small zipped sleeve pocket and a zipped inner media pocket along with the usual adjustable hem and cuffs, and the overall feel of the Didrikson is a well-made, sturdy waterproof that will give lots of service in all four seasons and not just summer.
