EDZ are a Cumbrian clothing brand specialising in merino wool products. The 200g long sleeve base layer on test is made from 100% superfine merino wool so is soft next to the skin and supremely comfortable to wear, this is also helped along by the flatlocked seams which ensure minimal irritation in the seam areas. Merino wool has great thermal properties and combats the build-up of odours well making this a good option for multi-day use and high intensity activity, although bear in mind that it’s not as quick drying as polyester alternatives. The top is long in the body and has a dropped back so could be a good choice if its intended use is for winter cycling.

Although the fit is tight, there is plenty of articulation built in, especially under the armpit areas meaning that you don’t feel unduly restricted. At 200g this is the warmest of the three weights that EDZ offer in their long sleeve base layer, combined with a good quality mid and top layer this makes a great defence against the winter weather.
