Fast and light kit is all well and good until the poop hits the potty and suddenly it isn't anymore. If you're travelling long distances in tough terrain and burly weather conditions then you really need gear that is built for purpose so that if something does go wrong, you're able to withstand and endure the challenge.

The Breccia Pants are designed to help you do exactly that. Built to take you deep into the backcountry, the Breccias are a traditional looking and reassuringly rugged pair of hiking pants that will appeal to fans of no-nonsense hiking gear.

Fit-wise, the Breccias offer a relaxed, loose ride meaning there's no restriction when striding onwards and upwards. They're also super comfortable thanks to the soft shell fabric that feels simultaneously soft next to skin but durable enough to withstand snags on rocks and branches etc.

The tough Flexible fabric is not only wind and water resistant, it also offers great breathability so you'll find no barriers to progress out on the hill. It's also been treated with PFC-free DWR so you can be assured that your kit will keep you protected from the elements without having an adverse effect on the environment you're travelling through.

In terms of features, the Breccia pants have just enough hiking-specific detail without straying into the over-engineered arena. Storage wise you've got two laminated zippered hand pockets, two thigh pockets and one back pocket so more than enough options for stashing kit on the move. Customisation is also made easy thanks to the VELCRO adjustable waist and choice of snap adjustments on the inner cuff of the pants.

The flipside of the Breccias is that they're not very exciting. The only colour option is black and the reasonably heavy fabric is not exactly going to help fire you to the summit in speed so they are unlikely to appeal to anyone travelling in particularly warm terrain or fans of colourful Euro-styling.

At 495g and £140, there are definitely options out there that will feel lighter on your person and your wallet but if you are looking for a dependable, reliable pair of hiking pants then the Breccias are definitely worth considering.
