The Sesvenna is billed as a lightweight thermal jacket intended for outdoor challenges in harsh environments. Made of Primaloft, damp conditions won't bother it too much, while its stretch panels should give it a good articulated fit for the active user.
At 400g it just sneaks into that lightweight description, but we're not so certain about the 'tiny pack size' claims that Vaude makes. When rolled into its hood it's exactly as large as you'd expect it to be: which is to say, moderately. Still, its dimensions are not off-putting and it'll find a place easily in most packs.
The stretch panelling is comprehensive, running in a broad sweep all the way from the elasticated cuffs (complete with thumb loops), under the arms and down to the waist. At its end it actually takes up a good hand span in width, making this a thermal jacket more in the style of a gilet and intended more for active users keen on breathability than those in search of ultimate warmth for rests and stops.
There are three useful pockets, two for hands and one at the chest, which offer a good amount of storage. In terms of adjustment, there is none. The hem is lightly elasticated as is the lip of the hood, which is comfortable regardless, and hugs the head nicely with a good amount of snug cushioning. We've found it makes a good jacket to wear inside a bivvy or on a wild camp, as well as during the colder and windier parts of the walk in.
It's worth noting that Vaude is also very proud of its green credentials, stating that this (and all of its products) utilise sustainable materials and are made via 'resource-conserving manufacturing'.
In conclusion: it's a great price for a versatile synthetic jacket, but buyers will have to make sure its non-adjustable fit and focus on breathability over warmth is right for their needs before committing. All boxes ticked this could represent an excellent purchase.
