RYA-IMAGEThe Royal Yachting Association (RYA) is the national body for all forms of boating...

The RYA is responsible for a diverse range of work including training courses, growing the sport, expert advice, racing, disabled sailing and lobbying. By joining the RYA members have access to event listings, training courses and have a voice in maintaining national sailing standards.

Boating is a broad sport enjoyed worldwide, largely as a recreational activity but also in competition. From relaxing aboard a narrow boat on a canal to pushing yourself physically on a yacht or windsurf, there is a variety of options for novices and professionals alike to enjoy life on board. Boating encompasses sailing on all bodies of water using a variety of different vessels. Dinghy sailing is popular for beginners and the diversity of yachting means that both families and transatlantic solo racers can enjoy it. Motor cruising is the fun and sociable pursuit of exploring places and new harbours in comfort while covering large distances quickly and easily. RIBs (rigid-hulled inflatable boats) and sports boats have a wide appeal and can be used to explore the rugged coastline of Britain, take day excursions or go waterskiing. Then there is windsurfing and personal watercraft (jet ski) versatile, fun and exhilarating forms of the sport.

If you are looking to get started in a sport or activity, Active Traveller recommends that you approach the governing body for up to date advice and membership. Join the RYA here
