The star of Born Survivor and Man vs Wild television hits Bear Grylls has been voted TV’s top adventurer by a poll of over 4000 readers of the TV listings magazine Radio Times.

The English action man amassed almost double the votes to beat Countryfile presenter and Castaway star Ben Fogle to the top spot with bush craft expert Ray Mears in third. In fourth place was Australian wildlife conservationist and crocodile wrestler Steve Irwin, who was killed by a stingray while filming a documentary in 2006.

Other Brits to make the top 10 include Springwatch presenter Kate Humble, explorer and author Simon Reeve, giant anaconda wrestler and ornithologist Nigel Marvin, Ed Stafford – who walked the length of the Amazon river, Olympic rower-turned ultra-endurance adventurer James Cracknell and Travel Chanel motor biker Henry Cole.

For Active Traveller’s own exclusive interview of Bear Grylls, see our next issue, in all good newsagents from early November.
