Deloitte Ride Across Britain riderCycle across England or Scotland as part of the Deloitte Ride Across Britain race this summer. If the full race, from Lands End to John o'Groats, is too daunting, the organisers - Threshold Sports - are offering cyclists the chance to participate in four or five-day challenges.

For those who want to experience the terrain North of the border, there is a new four-day Scotland package from John o’Groats to Carlisle. This 424-mile option takes in some of the most remote riding anywhere in the UK; from the Northernmost tip of Scotland in the shadow of the Orkneys down through the Highlands, along hidden roads around Loch Ness, over Glen Coe and Southwards to the border.

Very few events come this far north due to the logistical challenges of operating in such a remote area, but the rewards are deserted roads winding along open coastlines. The Scotland package runs from the 8 – 11 June 2013 and costs £950 per person.

For those who would rather explore south of the border then there is a new five-day, 539 mile England package. This starts a stone’s throw from the Scottish border and heads south through the Lakes over Shap Fell, winds its way through the Midlands and the Welsh borders and then on to the saw tooth hills of Devon and Cornwall. The England package runs from the 12 – 16 June 2013 and costs £1,150 per person.

Combine the two in successive years, and you've ticked off the whole challenge!

“Britain has some of the best scenery and riding in the world, but it’s not always easy to get the time off to see it all," said Nick Tuppen, Head of Events at Threshold Sports. "These four and five-day packages allow people to take just a few days holiday and uncover whole areas of Britain they don’t know about. Depending what people fancy they can choose leg-busting miles over Glen Coe humming the Braveheart theme tune, or clocking up the miles across Dartmoor followed by a full Devonshire cream tea in base camp”.
