welsh-FlagWhen in Wales...

Only about 20 per cent of the Welsh population speaks Welsh (and of those, all speak English), yet a visitor to North Wales will probably hear Welsh spoken fairly regularly. Here are some Cymraeg basics to listen out for (or use, if you’re feeling brave).

Bore da (Bo-ruh dah) – Good morning

Noswaith da (Noss-wythe tha) – Good evening

Nos da (Noss dah) – Good night

Sut rydych chi? (See riduch chee) – How are you?

Dai awn, diolch (Dah eeown, jolch) – Very well, thank you

Dim diolch (Dim jolch) – No, thank you

Os gwelwch yn dda (Oss gooeluch un tha) – Please

Diolch yn fawr (jolch un vowr) – Thank you very much
