The Skeletool SX is one of our favourite multi-tools for it's great looks and minimalist but useful range of functions, can its little brother, the KBX live up to its reputation? Read the review to find out.

It's a minimalist, metal, futuristic looking knife, what's not to like?

The Leatherman KBX has the same great looks as its older brother, the Skeletool SX. With a beautifully formed minimalist anodised aluminium body, it's almost as much form as it is function.

This diminutive tool is what can only be described as dainty, weighing only 38g and with a closed length of under 9cm. The blade hidden inside is 6.6cm of super sharp 420 HC (high carbon) stainless steel that locks open for cutting safety. Like other Leatherman tools the blade is unlocked using a small sprung push clip in the knife body which from experience is very reliable. Although this is not an agricultural, utilitarian type blade that can be bashed about without leaving a mark, it's great for small, fine tasks like cutting paracord, or indeed dividing up the pain au chocolat on a family picnic.

Unlike other Leatherman multi-tools, you can't use the KBx to open a can of tuna or put up shelves, instead it's happy being simply a knife, and a bottle opener. The bottle opener is craftily incorporated into the curving form of the knife body in the same anodised aluminium material, at the other end of the bottle opener is a pocket clip to keep the knife firmly attached to you.

We're really keen on Leatherman's Skeletool range and the KBX is no exception, and at £40 it's also very affordable.
