If you want to keep your sleeping bag feeling, and smelling fresh for longer thus avoiding death by washing machine then you should be using a sleeping bag liner.

Lifeventure's mummy shaped liner is made from 100% machine washable silk, has a pillow sleeve, a hidden security pocket and packs down into a small stuff sack.

Being silk, this liner feels wonderfully luxurious next to the skin, not something you could say of many sleeping bags. The mummy shape fits neatly into most technical bags, without being overly restrictive and the pillow sleeve is generous, ensuring you can squeeze a standard size pillow in there when the situation allows.

Silk is well known for being great at regulating body temperature, it also wicks moisture well, so a good material choice if you're heading to warm muggy climates. In cooler climates, we found that the liner allowed us to carry a lighter weight sleeping bag thanks to the additional hit of warmth it provided, which is always good when you're counting the grams. If you are in a warm climate there's no reason not to use the liner on its own.

The Polygiene treatment helps keep pongs at bay, which is handy when you're travelling and don't have regular access to washing facilities. We've been impressed by Polygiene's treatment in the past and were equally impressed here.

The liner packs down easily into its little 13 x 9cm ripstop stuff sack and will only add 134g to your luggage, which is a small price to pay for all this comfort. Talking of price, at £53 it's bang on for a high-quality liner, you can get liners made from other materials for less but why have cotton when you can have silk?
