The Spot Gen3 GPS tracker is a seriously rugged device that goes with you no matter how extreme the environment. Designed to be hung off the outside of your backpack, IPX7 waterproofing, protection from humidity and salt ingress and excellent operating temperature and altitude ranges to suit the most extreme of environments combine to make the Gen3 as reliable as you would expect from a potentially lifesaving device.

The premise is simple, log on to your online account and pre-load the device with a range of messages which can then be sent to recipients via email and mobile at the push of a button.

Messages can be customized to read whatever you want, from letting friends and family know where you are and that you're ok, to bragging about your latest adventure on social media. The S.O.S emergency button notifies the emergency response centre of your GPS location and is credited with having assisting in 4,100 rescues globally.

You can track progress by sharing GPS location in real-time via Google Maps and save waypoints so you can review and share your route at a later date.

In an emergency situation a push of the S.O.S button sends a message out to the emergency services complete with your location. A lower level emergency message alerts friends or family to a problem, again providing them with your precise GPS co-ordinates so that they can come to the rescue. If you're into social sharing (and who isn't these days?) you can set the Spot Gen3 up to share your message and location on Facebook and Twitter.

The basic subscription package costs just over a tenner a month which gives you all of the above features. You can add enhanced tracking which allows you to reduce the waypoint marking frequency as well as search and rescue insurance for small additional monthly costs.
