Morzine, France

Situated right in the heart of the Portes du Soleil area, you’ll find the traditional market town of Morzine. This place is famous for its mountain biking, especially the downhill type. The downhill MTB tracks and trails in the Portes du Soleil region are regarded as some of the best in the world, and Morzine is right in the middle of it all. The expansive lift systems means no uphill pedalling is necessary and the way back down can be as challenging, or easy, as you like.

Morzine caters for all types of mountain biker, from beginner to expert, and even if you aren’t a Downhill Jedi there are loads of other routes and tracks to explore.

 

Sesto, Italy

For sheer beauty and breath-taking views there can hardly a better place to visit than the Dolomites in Italy. There are many regional and national parks in the Dolomites and all were declared as UNESCO World Heritage Sites due to the natural physical significance of the mountain range. This means the area is a mecca for walkers and trekkers who visit year after year to explore this amazing and stunningly beautiful area. The Sesto National Park has an extensive network of trails which is enough to keep you exploring all week.

Of course it’s not just walking you can try here, the Dolomites offer activities for all, including the exciting sport of paragliding. Soaring above the clouds in a must when visiting this region – pick a sunny day to fly and it’ll be an experience never forgotten.

 

Zermatt, Switzerland

Zermatt is a picturesque, charming and bustling resort high up in the Swiss Alps. There is a plethora of activities to try here, making it a great choice for the family. With a mix of outdoor sports and activities to try you will never get bored here, however, many travel to Switzerland for one thing only – the rock climbing. Probably the best country in the world for climbing, Switzerland is a very popular choice for all abilities and ages of climber. With new routes being discovered all the time you could go back every year and always be challenged with somewhere different to climb.

 

Tignes, France

For an all-round family activity holiday package there is no better place than Tignes. The resort offers the largest variety of sporting activities in the Alps and is situated around a beautiful lake. Try sports such as mountain biking, rock climbing, sailing and even skiing in the summer months. The Grande Motte is one of Europe’s highest ski-able glaciers, meaning you can ski in the morning and sunbath all afternoon.

The activities around the lake include traditional sports such as kayaking and sailing. However Tignes also boasts the crazier and less mainstream sports such as flyboarding, the blob jump and massive outdoor water slides.

 

Val d’Isere, France

Not too far away from Tignes is the village of Val d’Isere. Expect traditional architecture and plenty of charm and style in this alpine wonderland. The quaint setting of this pretty mountain town means it is the perfect place to relax and unwind with its health and wellbeing programme. Join in with outside yoga, Pilates and fitness classes, where you can breathe in fresh alpine air and take in the majestic mountain panorama as you exercise.  There are many spas situated around the town to unwind in after a day trying all the activities Val d’Isere has to offer.
