New for this season Cube's Rook features several technologies aimed at offering maximum comfort and protection in a lightweight package.
First up Cube have used their Natural Fit system which simply means there's an emphasis on comfort, although this doesn't add bulk or weight which at 261g is class leading.
A slimline cradle sits around the sides and back of the head with a small but easy to use dial adjuster cinching everything in for a secure fit. Foam inserts at the top and front add a little cushioning and although not the most luxurious out there, comfort is great considering that low weight.
High safety standards achieved by EPS double-in-mold construction allow for no less than 18 air vents which are well positioned for good airflow and have deep internal ducts, making this one of the better helmets out there for hot sweaty rides - but not so great though for cold weather where a skull cap would be needed.
No decent MTB helmet would be complete without a visor and the one on the Rook isn't too ostentatious but still offers protection from the sun as well as overhanging branches on poorly maintained trails. The visor adjusts high enough for full visibility or to tuck your sunnies (or goggles if that's your bag) above you on uphill sections.
The chinstrap seems strangely lacking in material on our test helmet, the only way to get it long enough to do up is to have the point at which the strap splits on both sides sitting on the ear lobe, which isn't as comfortable as it could be. We've contacted Cube for comment and will report back.
Overall though the Rook is a great MTB helmet just sneaking in under that magic £100 mark. It's comfortable, airy and offers good protection as well as having some appealing colourways, making it a recommended buy.
