Available in several striking 'young' colours, the Vertical uses GPS to track speed and distance, and when used with an extra heart rate monitor, effort and even your recovery.

But its main function - whether on foot, or bike - is logging and navigating up and down adventures.

Using a barometer for elevation measurements, it displays route altitude profile, current gain and descent in real time, as well as the climbs and descents ahead on your route.

Well connected, the Vertical wirelessly syncs with Suunto's MovesCount smartphone app, site and community, and will automatically upload routes to Strava too. If you must, it can even alert you to incoming calls, texts and emails from your phone. Ourn first impressions are that it is a competent , sturdy and stylish GPS sports watch, with great battery life but just slightly unintuitive user interface.
