rafting-in-walesCanolfan Tryweryn, the National Whitewater Centre, developed the first commercial white-water rafting in the UK back in 1986.

Today, the river Tryweryn’s flow, which is dependent upon water release from Llyn Celyn reservoir, is as strong as ever all year round. The steep, rocky course is graded three/four out of a possible six, where six is considered too fierce for commercial rafting. Between four and seven people take to each 3 metre inflatable raft for as many runs along the 2km course as possible over two hours (usually four). If you fancy something different, why not downsize to a two-person Eurocraft Orca for a challenge that mixes white-water rafting with kayaking?

Requirements: Minimum age is 12. You must be able to swim at least 25 metres. Safety equipment supplied and wetsuits can be hired .

Prices: From around £235 per raft. Taster sessions are also available
