Wouldn't have it as our main active insulation layer

Rab describe the Cirrus Alpine as a versatile alpine all-rounder and we wouldn’t argue.

With a plump fill of 100% recycled synthetic Primaloft Silver Luxe Insulation, the Cirrus Alpine jacket keeps you seriously warm which is obviously the most important aspect of an insulated jacket. Primaloft is an excellent synthetic insulation known for being high performing in warmth to weight but breathable during activity. This is bolstered by the excellent Pertex Quantum outer material which blocks the wind but lets your body breathe.

We really like the fit of the Cirrus Alpine jacket, it isn't too baggy and at the same time, it's not too tight. It gives you excellent freedom of movement and great coverage over your wrists and at the hem which is dropped to fall just below the bum. The hood has a wired peak that you can mold to your liking and of course, the synthetic insulation continues right up over the head. Inside, the recycled 20D nylon lining is soft and comfortable and doesn't rustle too much.

Sealing in heat is easy thanks to dual drawcord adjusters which work impeccably well. The elasticated cuffs have a soft feel and are easy to get over your hands. The hand pockets are generous and your hands are kept sumptuously warm. Phones and wallets are easily stored in the zipped inside pocket which is big enough for both.

Synthetic insulation doesn't provide the same warmth to weight as down and isn't as compressible. The Cirrus Alpine jacket has a fair amount of insulation stuffed inside, this means that it isn't the lightest insulated jacket, at 516g putting it around the middle of the pack of winter-ready insulated jackets.

A stuff sack is provided and this measures about 20 x 25 cm with the jacket inside, doubling up as a luxurious pillow….if you’re in a pinch. For travel and hiking purposes the size is perfect for throwing into a backpack or suitcase.

The cirrus alpine jacket is deliberately less sporty looking than some of Rabs insulated jackets and this makes it ideal for day-to-day use. In fact, it hasn't left our backs in the cold British winter weather since it landed on our doorstep.

If you're looking for a warm, highly versatile synthetic insulated jacket for hikes, cold weather climbs, or travel this versatile all-rounder will fit the bill perfectly.
