Cargo pockets too small to hold ‘trail maps’, as claimed by the manufacturer
arcteryx.com

Designed specifically for hiking and trekking, the Rampart are versatile, lightweight and patterned with articulation and a hint of stretch for a full range of motion.

They’re constructed from Arc’teryx’s TerraTex fabric which has a plain nylon weave with elastane fibres to provide a degree of stretch, as well as offering UPF 50+ sun protection.

In addition the trousers dry quickly if you’re caught in a rainstorm, and are extremely air permeable, which makes them more comfortable in warm or humid conditions.

A gusseted crotch and articulated knees ensure comfort in more strenuous activities, as does the wide waistband which has been designed to minimise hipbelt irritation; it also comes with a lightweight, integrated snap-fitting belt.

You get two decent-sized hip pockets, but no rear pockets – there are, however, two zipped cargo pockets. Unfortunately, despite Arc’teryx’s claim that these are ‘sized for trail maps’ they’re not big enough (when zipped up) for either an OS Landranger map or a French ISGN map – a surprising oversight for a company like Arc’teryx, for whom attention to detail is usually key.

Other than this oversight the Rampart is a neat, functional and lightweight pair of walking trousers that are well-suited to activities in warmer weather and climates.
