Patagonia claims that the Quandry is an all-season pant, and although the lightweight stretch-woven nylon/Spandex fabric from which they’re constructed is warmer than you’d expect from such a lightweight fabric, we’re not sure they’d be quite warm enough for winter. But for the coming summer they’re ideal, coming as they do with a DWR finish to shrug off showers along with 40-UPF sun protection to prevent sunburn.

They’re extremely comfortable from the moment you slip them on thanks to features such as articulated knees and a gusseted crotch, which allow for full range of motion; add to that the fact that the cut/fit is ‘movement-oriented’ and they work well whether just ambling across the moors or enjoying more strenuous activities such as scrambling and via ferrata.

You get two hand pockets, one with change pocket, two rear pockets and a zipped cargo pocket – none are especially large but the advantage of this is that it prevents you from loading them down with bits and pieces and ensures the Quandry stays light and comfortable on your legs, which is exactly what you want for summer walking trousers.

Other than not having scuff guards on the hems the Quandry pretty much comes with everything you need from a pair of three- if not four-season walking pants, and it’s only if you like a loose cut that they won’t appeal.
