The age of cumbersome awkward heavy boots is thankfully a thing of the past. These days it's all about fast hiking in super light, versatile and comfortable boots that facilitate speedy progression on the trail whilst still delivering functional protection where it's needed.

The Sky Toa is one such fast and light hiking boot. Drawing on Hoka One One's trail running heritage, the Sky Toa may look more like a running shoe than a traditional hiking boot, but it's 100% fit for trail adventure purpose.

Waterproof, durable and breathable, the Sky Toa knows that trail life can be hard on both feet and shoes and is packed full of technology to keep you moving on your journey. The eVent waterproof bootie means no water's getting into this speedy sucker, the synthetic upper allows sweaty feet to breathe, and the Rangi midsole foam provides a pleasantly cushioned underfoot ride.

Hoka One One are famous for their Spice Girl-esque big spongey soles yet despite the Sky Toa's slightly clunky appearance, these boots really do offer a responsive on-trail experience. Fans of mega minimalist rides may want to scale things down but if you're looking for that sweet spot between cushioning and on-trail reactivity then the Sky Toa delivers.

The 4mm drop means you feel surprisingly connected to the trail despite the maximalist style of the Sky Toa. They're simultaneously forgiving and fun, allowing you to change direction at speed and really direct power through the boot on tough uphill sections. Rebound is both noticeable and appreciated, particularly when energy levels are beginning to flag towards the end of a long day in the hills.

Grip is also impressive thanks to the Vibram Megagrip hi-traction outsole with multidirectional lugs. Hoka have constructed the Sky Toa sole with a 75% Vibram rubber to 25% exposed EVA split. The goal is to save weight without sacrificing durability - only time will tell whether they last the pace but it's all looking good so far!
