Simple, effective design
Another outer pocket of two might be useful

The Prolighter 25 is a neat package of simple and effective design that essentially provides all you need for alpine activities and no superfluous extras to add to the weight.

The streamlined alpine shape marks it out as being designed for more serious users, as does the rope holder compression strap under the lid, along with other utilitarian features such as ice axe holders, reinforced ski holders, three haul loops and gear holders on the hip belt.

There's one main compartment with a hydration sleeve and hydration port on the right shoulder strap, and that's it in terms of storage other than an inner and outer zipped pocket in the lid.

The shoulder straps, back panel and hip belt have an ergonomic cut, and while they don't provide as much padding or ventilation as some of the other packs we tested they're still comfortable enough, and keep the weight and bulk of the pack down to a very reasonable 870g.

The pack has been designed with a thermal laser cut for additional weight and bulk saving and uses Kordura fabric for resilience.

For some users the lack of outer pockets may be an issue, but if you like your pack to be simple but sturdy and workmanlike it will appeal; and even better, the Prolighter is a pack you can readily use year-round for everything from mountain walking to ski touring.
