The Ekman has been designed specifically for getting cold-water surfers warm again, although I’d be pretty happy to use it in the hills – in fact I did, on a wet walk in the Scottish Highlands where it performed admirably.

The fit is quite loose, which allows for layering underneath, and there’s a soft, brushed inner for comfort against bare skin in warmer conditions.

I particularly liked the fully adjustable hood, which stayed put in the windiest of conditions and also provides excellent lateral vision.

The plain and simple look of the jacket is very appealing with just two large outer and one inner pocket (all zipped), and it can also be rolled up into itself for packing (although the instructions for doing so are far
