Swedish company Houdini describes the Motion Light pants as 'stretchy soft shell pants for all year around use: city biking to backcountry adventures both summer and winter'. So if you're a general outdoor user looking for some do-it-all trousers, they are a tempting option.

Comfort levels are excellent, as the fabric is tremendously supple and pleasingly stretchy - giving these trousers the free feeling of yoga pants. There are small ankle zips for widening the bottom of the trousers slightly, but apart from that there is no further adjustment. You will have to provide your own belt for the loops at the hip.

Weighing just 266g they certainly deserve the 'light' part of their name, and that's achieved not only through the minimal design but through use of the Motion Light Comfortshell fabric (which is polyester-based). As mentioned, it's stretchy and comfortable, but it also comes with a DWR (durable water repellent) finish and is very quick-drying too. However, there are far more rugged trousers on the market, and if you're looking for high wind, weather and abrasion resistance then look elsewhere. The Motion Light pants are intended for high aerobic activities in non-extreme environments and this they do well.

Storage is standard, coming via four pockets in total. The two hand pockets are nicely sized but have no fastening, while the rear right pocket is enormous and has a zip fastening. The fourth option, meanwhile, sits on the left thigh, is roughly the size of a splayed hand and comes with a zipper fastening too. Matching the overall design of the trousers, the fabric inside is very slight so you will be well aware of anything you are carrying in any of these storage points.

In conclusion: an expensive, but extremely comfortable and lightweight pair of outdoor trousers for eager multi-sport users.
