These are beautiful looking boots and they perform as well as they look thanks to a mix of water-resistant Perwanger leather uppers and a Gore-tex lining along with a very aggressively lugged Vibram sole with a unique ‘Aso-brake system’ which is designed to provide increased stability and security on steep descents.

Despite being marketed as a three-season boot the Tribe is actually C1 crampon-compatible. There’s an element of initial stiffness in the forefoot but this eases with use, and heel support is reassuringly stable and well-cushioned. They’re also very light for a winter boot.

There’s a decent sized rubber rand around the toe to provide protection, and our only concern with the Tribe was that some people may find it a tad narrow in the toes/forefoot. This is not uncommon with Italian footwear, so try before you buy.
