Stable and sustainable, protective and precise - a perfectly balanced and truly versatile performer
The protection around the ankle is a little stiff and takes a day or so to wear in.

Out of the box the Haglofs Roc Icon Mid GT looks straightforward enough. A low profile hiking boot with subtle, yet modern styling, the Roc Icon Mid GT neither dazzles or repels. Take a closer look however and it becomes immediately apparent that this is a high impact product with a host of cutting-edge features and the latest outdoor footwear technologies.

A snug, close fitting boot with a decent sized toe box, the asymmetric lacing of the Roc Icon Mid GT goes right down to the toe of the boot, providing the best possible individual fit. This long lacing system is both aesthetic and functional, coming in particularly handy if you enjoy scrambling or via ferrata adventures where precision around the toe is paramount.

The ability to feel the ground underneath your foot is one of the features that impressed us most about the Roc Icon Mid GT and while this is a low profile hiker, it's also a strong and stable boot built to endure the demands of the trail. The rubber reinforced toe and heel offer protection where it's needed most meaning you can charge on through in rocky and rugged terrain, safe in the knowledge that the high cut profile will keep your ankles protected with no trade-off in restriction of movement.

The GORE-TEX Extended Comfort membrane of the Roc Icon Mid GT keeps water out of the boot while still allowing your feet to breathe - a gift when travelling through boggy terrain en route to a remote Scottish Munro! We found the dual density midsole to be comfortable over the course of a long day in the hills with no sensation of rocks coming through the sole despite the close to the ground contact.

If you're gear geeks like us, then you'll find the base of the Roc Icon Mid GT is a thing of great beauty! The Vibram Approach rubber outsole provides both superior grip and additional adhesion in technical terrain. The combination of the complex tread pattern and rugged deep lugs with the sticky climbing-inspired compound clearly demonstrate the intended versatility of the Roc Icon Mid GT.

We believe that all outdoor enthusiasts are environmental stewards and should strive to minimize their impact wherever possible so we were impressed that Haglofs have constructed the Roc Icon Mid GT using premium eco-friendly leather from the gold-rated sustainable Leather Working Group. Every little helps at the end of the day.

At £155 and 430g, the multi-purpose mega light Haglofs Roc Icon Mid GT may be priced slightly at the higher end of this category of boot but dependability and versatility really are worth their weight in gold. Whether it would stand the test of back-to-back long days on a thru-hike would be interesting to find out but one thing's for sure, it's certainly an impressively well put together lightweight approach boot.
