The unique mountain scenery of the Dolomites in Italy's South Tyrol is a stunning sight to behold, whether from a mountaintop at sunrise, or a restaurant terrace with a drink in your hand.

Daybreak in the Dolomites. The first rays of sunlight peek through the cloud and warm the sky, throwing the spiky peaks into sharp relief against the pink-orange glow. This is a view worth waking up at 5:00am for.

This brilliant image, captured by photographer Mark Chase on a recent trip to South Tyrol with globetrotter Gwilym Pugh, was taken at the summit of the Gran Cir peak, looking out over the surrounding mountain range after a trek to the top lit by head torches over meadows, scree slopes and some via ferrata.
