Stretchy, quiet fabrics are comfortable and the price is right
The hood just needs to be a little bigger for trail helmets

When you think of a packable waterproof you generally think of a rustly, insubstantial jacket that lives at the bottom of your rucksack most of the time only to see daylight in emergencies. At 247g the Flux Superlight is most definitely lightweight, but with comfort and features that actually meant it spent more time on our back than off.

The super-stretchy fabric is soft and silent, so very comfortable and pretty much flap free even in strong winds, in fact we often forgot we were wearing a waterproof at all - and you really don't get higher praise than that in our book. The fabric is extremely breathable on paper, but sensibly this is also backed up by laser cut holes under the arms and adjustable cuffs and hem, so one way or another you can let the moisture out.

The hood is large, but not quite big enough to pull over a helmet when waiting for friends on top of a chilly hillside, and there are enough waterproof pockets to keep your bits and pieces safe. Also, as with all Madison clothing, it comes with a limited lifetime warranty.
