If you like the light weight and freedom of shorts but prefer to have your legs covered for protection from sun, thorns and biting insects you’ll love the Wayfarer, which is so light (just 250g) you can hardly feel them on your legs.

And with a choice of eight colours and men’s and women’s cuts there’s pretty much something there to suit everyone.

The Wayfarers combine a four-way-stretch fabric with an active cut, which added to the light weight makes them a great option for more strenuous or high action activities; and although they come with belt loops you can keep the weight down by doing away with said belt thanks to Velcro waist adjusters on either side.

The two mesh-lined hip pockets come with zips, as does the single stretch fabric cargo pocket on the right leg – this isn’t really big enough for much other than a credit card holder, lip salve or the like, however. There’s also a single, mesh-lined and zipped rear pocket.

The waistband on the Wayfarer is slightly higher than on some of the other pants we tested, which we quite liked as it provides a more comfortable and secure fit; and the overall cut was amongst the most stylish (well, they are French pants…).
