fix the fells working in CumbriaOutdoor brand Montane and Keswick retailer George Fisher are raising money for Fix The Fells – an organisation that helps repair and maintain paths in the Lake District.

They will donate £5 from every sale of a Montane product online or in store between March and May to the project, aiming to donate £1,000 in total.

Each year, paths in Cumbria come under stress from large numbers of walkers and fell runners as well as lashing rain, snow and ice. Montane, the sponsor of the Lakeland 100 and 50 ultra-events that have 1,000 participants a year, are only too aware of the problems of path erosion and are keen to help maintain paths for the enjoyment of everyone.

Fix The Fells has repaired more than 200 paths in the last 10 years, and is trying to raise £500,000 to fund its work and tackle a further 120 problem paths in the next decade.

“It costs £100 to repair one metre of stone pitched path,” said Ruth Kirk, Fundraising Development Officer for Fix The Fells’ partner, Nurture Lakeland. “Your £5 donated through purchasing a Montane product will repair around two boot prints worth of erosion! It’s vital funding we need to help us keep the fells fighting fit for the future for everyone to continue to enjoy.”
